RICHARD BLAND COLLEGE: ACADEMIC INNOVATION CENTER
RENOVATION | 10,000SF | PETERSBURG, VA
The renovation of Richard Bland College’s Academic Innovation Center, led by RRMM Architects, began with a detailed feasibility study aimed at aligning with the college’s 2025 strategic plan. The goal was to create student-centered spaces that foster innovative higher education. The newly renovated center, now connected to the college library, offers flexible learning environments designed to accommodate diverse programming, including micro-credentials, fast-track courses, and hybrid models.
MOI played a pivotal role in furnishing the updated center. Their expertise introduced modern lounge seating and fully furnished outdoor areas that encourage collaboration inside and outside the building. The carefully selected ancillary furniture pieces enhance the space's ability to support creativity and collaboration, establishing an inspiring environment for learning. Despite some scheduling conflicts and the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, MOI and RRMM transformed the center into a forward-thinking hub that expands the college's educational capabilities and strengthens its role in the community.
